WHO IS JESUS?

The Winans, a famous Gospel group, produced a song with these lyrics about Jesus: “It was not a haphazard event, nor a secondary scheme, but it was the plan of the Lord to redeem...He decided to die even before Adam sinned.” Why did Jesus come to the earth? Let's ask Him? Why did Jesus say that He came to the earth?

"Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." (John 18:34-37)

Jesus admitted that He came into the world because He is a King. He was born King! Therefore, He had to set up His Kingdom here on earth. (I will explain this more on our website in the section entitled, “The Kingdom of God.”) Therefore, Jesus’ only purpose was not to come to earth to die. If that were the case, He would have died earlier than at age 33. Jesus came to setup the Kingdom of God on earth and to preach/teach about the Kingdom of God so that we would know who we are and how we are to operate within God’s Kingdom.

"He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return... And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. (Luke 19:12,15)

Jesus is the Lamb of God Who can take away your sins. How is this done? The Word of God declares in Hebrews 9:22 that, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” In other words, without bloodshed, God will not forgive sin, nor will He hold back the punishment for sin. In the Old Testament, priests could offer a lamb for the forgiveness of the sins of the people. The lamb, in fact, could not even have a spot or a blemish on it, if it was to be offered to the Lord.

How was this to relate to Jesus Christ? He was the only one Who lived on the earth and never sinned. (2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”) Therefore, no spot or blemish of sin or fault was ever found in His life. That made Him worthy of being offered for the forgiveness of sin. He is Savior because He saves us from the world’s evil system and the eternal lake of fire, which is the punishment for those who did not ask forgiveness of their sins. He is Lord because all that God the Father has belongs to Jesus as well. Lord means Owner and we know that God owns everything! (We will discuss this in the section entitled, The Kingdom of God).

This is not a “once in a lifetime” deal, meaning, if you accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, your sins are forgiven. That’s truth, but if you sin again, you will need to ask for forgiveness for the new sins. Please know that you do not have to sin everyday! Jesus is more powerful than any sin! When He’s in you, His power is in you by His Holy Spirit! Accept Jesus Christ as Savior and live for HIM and HIM alone! Click here to pray a Prayer for Salvation.
